Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso inaugurates ‘Tejo Weaves’ boutique in Kohima
KOHIMA — MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso inaugurated Tejo Weaves, a boutique for traditional attire and items, on Monday at PR Hill in Kohima.
During his address at the brief event, Rhutso emphasised the significance of the term ‘Tejo,’ which in Southern Angami dialect translates to ‘Blessings.’ He underscored that the boutique embodies this concept, serving as a blessing for both the weavers and the customers.
He expressed confidence that the boutique would provide opportunities for self-employment to many individuals. Simultaneously, he anticipated that it would offer a one-stop solution for various items that might not be readily available elsewhere.
Acknowledging the presence of the members of the Angami Women Organisation (AWO), he urged them to develop a shawl exclusively meant to honour outstanding individuals, akin to the tradition of the Chakhesang tribe (with Thupikhwü) to honour those who host community feasts. He pointed out the absence of such a tradition within the Tenyimi community, particularly among the Angamis.
He added that such a shawl, if developed, should be revered and earned through merit rather than being a commodity available for purchase by any affluent individual in society. Furthermore, Rhutso observed that this initiative would encourage society to be more generous and focused on welfare, giving back to the community.
Meanwhile, the proprietor of Tejo Weaves, Neithono Sotho, mentioned that a boutique was established in 2014, operating from the Angami Public Organisation (APO) building. Sotho said that the venture’s primary concern and objective are to preserve traditional attire and items while also promoting entrepreneurship for livelihood and sustenance.
In pursuit of this goal, the idea of opening another boutique was conceived, which was inaugurated on Monday.
