Dr. T Ao Trophy: Zunheboto spoils Noklak’s debut game
Kohima, April 13 (EMN): The 2019 defending champion of the Inter-district Football Championship (Dr. T Ao Trophy) Phek district locked horns with the Peren team in the first match of the tournament at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima on Tuesday.
With both teams fighting hard for the ball, the first goal was made by Peren‘s Ilungrai in the 23th minute, which gave them the advantage while the Phek team, despite several attempts could not equalise in the first half.
After the break, captain of Phek team Khwetelhi Thopi found the net and equalised the game in the 41st minute. However both teams, despite attempts, failed to advance and the final whistle was blown ending the game in a draw.
In the second match, the debutant Noklak district team took on Zunheboto district. The first goal of the match was registered by Kibovi from Zunheboto in the 35th minute.
Yet after the half-time, Noklak‘s Longshi equalised the scoreline in the 50th minute. Kitho and Mughapu both from Zunheboto district added a goal each, thereby registering the win against the debutant with 3-1.
Meanwhile the third match was played between Mon district and Dimapur district in the afternoon.
Dimapur‘s Kivi Zhimo made the first goal in the 30th minute and subsequently, Khakevi Assumi added another goal in the next minute (31st) in the first half.
However, in the second half Kivi Zhimo made his second goal in the 60th minute which proved decisive to upset the striving Mon team ended the match 3-0.
In the fourth match, Kohima district took on Mokokchung in the evening, played in the floodlights. A solitary goal from Kohima‘s Sinlo Kent in the 30th minutes registered the win for Kohima.
