DJST celebrates 50th anniversary

DIMAPUR — Dimapur Japukong Senso Telongjem (DJST) on Saturday celebrated its golden jubilee at Imliyanger Memorial Centre (IMC) at Fellowship Colony on the theme “Molushiba” (Refine).

Speaking at the celebration, the minister of Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along, urged the gathering to strive living in harmony with people from Satsukba to Yajang village, acknowledging that challenges would always arise along the way.

He added that the challenges were different for earlier generation as compared to present day especially with the advent of technology, information and knowledge readily accessible at their doorstep.

Mentioning that there are many tribes in Nagaland, he said the Ao tribe is one among them comprising six ranges including the Japukong range. He encouraged the people of Japukong range to contribute for the growth of Ao community and the Naga people as a whole.

He informed that maximum high-ranking officials from Japukong have now retired and that educated individuals are not applying for competitive exams.

Stating that challenges cannot be resolved by one person or the union president alone, he has sought collective efforts to move forward for the betterment of the people. He also urged the intellectuals from Japukong to set a vision and goal for the betterment of the community. 

He pointed out that Nagaland today is suffering because of literate people, who are unwilling to work. To overcome the problem of unemployment, the minister insisted on imbibing culture of hard work for the society to move forward.

Speaking on the theme “Molushiba,” Rev. T Chuba said that they are part of a refined generation as the pioneers who founded Dimapur Japukong Senso Telongjem had faced many challenges. He stated that it was through their dedicated efforts that they are celebrating golden jubilee today.

Making a comparison of gold, which required a series of chemical processes to remove impurities to increase its value, he asserted that a person must face many difficulties and challenges in life to become refined.

Chuba preached that a person cannot achieve true refinement without God’s blessing adding when God refines an individual, no human can diminish that person.

Short speeches were delivered by president of Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur (ASTD), Ningsangwaba, and president of Japukong Senso Senden (JSS), Imdongtangba.
