Diverse cultural presentations enthrall visitors on concluding day

KISAMA — With much fanfare, the 18 cultural troupes representing various tribes and communities of Nagaland enthralled visitors with dances, songs and other traditional practices on the concluding day of the 24th edition of Hornbill Festival at the Main Arena of Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, on Sunday.

Kiehangsing Thou from Zeliang tribe was the tribal guest, while advisor of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, was the host and MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe was the co-host in the morning session.

In the afternoon session, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, minister of Panchayat and Rural Development, Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs, Law and Justice, GAD, Government of Assam, was the chief guest, while Z Nyusietho Nyuthe, advisor of NSDMA and New and Renewable Energy Resources, was the host and MLA A Nyamnyei Konyak and MLA Y Mankhao Konyak were the co-hosts.

Sanglao Cultural Club from Noklak representing Khiamniungan tribe opened the show by exhibiting a pre-war dance followed with Lotha tribe represented by Zechophen Cultural Club from Bhandari village in Wokha performed a game called ‘Yingpvulo Hethei Tsokhphita,’ while Chang tribe represented by the Pilashi Cultural Troupe from Tuensang village presented a song of praise, the Kithagha Cultural Club from Chunlikha village in Tseminyu representing Rengma tribe performed ‘Aghali’ (folk dance) and Tikhir tribe represented by Mining Hill Cultural Troupe from Pokphur village in Kiphire presented a men's folk dance.

Garo community represented by the Garo Cultural Troupe from Dubagaon village in Dimapur performed a jhum burning ceremony, while the Angami cultural troupe represented by Khonoma Youth Organisation showcased ‘Howe’ (folk dance); Kuki cultural troupe from New Chalkot village in Peren showcased a girls game played with wild beans and the Phom cultural troupe represented by Yongnyah Cultural Troupe Society from Longleng also presented ‘Moi Nyukpii’ (demonstration of thanksgiving).

In the afternoon session, Yannu Ponven Cultural Troupe from Mon representing Konyak tribe performed ‘Zankam Shon’ (war dance); Ao tribe represented by cultural club from Molungkimong village showcased a folk song; Gyanswrang Fwrang Shali Cultural Troupe from Kushiabill in Dimapur representing Kachari tribe performed ‘Bar-Dwi-Shikhla’ (folk dance) and Zeliang cultural troupe represented by the Intimate Youth Cultural Club from Heningkunglwa in Peren performed a butterfly dance.

Pochury cultural troupe represented by Phokhungri village demonstrated celebration of ‘Yemshe’ festival, while Zhavame Village Cultural Troupe from Phek representing Chakhesang tribe performed a demonstration of gate pulling; Mimi village cultural troupe from Kiphire representing Yimkhiung tribe performed ‘Sorotsu Mushu Khun’ (folk song); Sumi tribe represented by Ghokimi cultural society performed "Orphan's lament" and the Sangtam Sangli Cultural from Tuensang performed ‘Angdu-Angdu’ (folk dance).
