Disaster mitigation techniques demonstrated at CATC

NCC cadets participate in disaster mitigation demonstration at St. Joseph University, Chümoukedima, on Monday.

DIMAPUR — The NCC cadets attending the 10-day Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) at St. Joseph University, Chümoukedima, witnessed on Monday a demonstration of the capabilities of the Nagaland State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) and Nagaland Fire and Emergency Services (NFES).

According to an update, the SDRF team, led by SI Viboto H Sumi, explained on the occasion disaster types and mitigation techniques such as rescue, first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and carriage of casualties.

The NFES team, led by Inspector Kent, introduced the cadets to different types of fire, fire extinguishers, and firefighting techniques. There were also demonstrations on drowsing domestic fire from LPG cylinders and the use of fire hydrants.

The event was followed by lectures on ‘Prevention of HIV/AIDS’ and ‘Drug abuse’ by Bendang and Jongpong of Kripa Foundation, an NGO that has been working on the cause all over India.

Nellayappan B, officer on special duty to the Chief Minister of Nagaland and Deputy Director of the Nagaland School Education Department, also visited the camp and was briefed on the training activities.

He observed rifle firing by cadets on the firing simulator and shared his experiences as an NCC cadet.
