Kohima, Aug. 24 (EMN): The new office building of the Directorate of Social Welfare was inaugurated by the advisor of Social Welfare, Home Guards and Civil Defence, Noke Wangnao, on Tuesday.

The new office facility is situated behind the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) Convention Centre at Phezoucha in Kohima.

Addressing the gathering during the inaugural programme of the Social Welfare department’s new office, the advisor congratulated the director and team for the successful completion of the building.

He expressed hope that the new office building would boost the productivity as well as enhance the bond between the staff and co-workers.

Wangnao urged the employees to work with a new zeal and energy for the welfare of the public and the growth of the department. Went on to ask the staff to use the office with respect and take care of it as their own property.

‘Your office is your field’

Meanwhile, the commissioner and secretary of Social Welfare department, Sarah R Ritse, in acknowledged the state government for acquiring ‘the best and most accessible site’, taking up the project on priority basis and fulfilling the long-standing need.

She also thanked all the officers and staff involved for the completion of the new directorate building.

The officer asserted that the department had long-felt the need of a proper building infrastructure to facilitate a good working environment for better management of administrative tasks by providing more rooms for housing different programmes and cells to enable easy accessibility to the public and beneficiaries.

She maintained that the completion of a much-needed building would boost the morale of all the staff to continue to work for holistic development of the society at large.

“Your office is your field and you will spend most of your time here. I therefore urge you to invest your valuable time with dedication and zeal in the best interest of our people,” said Ritse.

She advised the staff to use the office with care while maintaining proper office decorum and discipline to nurture best co-operation and harmony in order to ensure work progress.

“We are a cradle to grave ministry and we serve to uplift the children, mothers, downtrodden, disabled and aged, widow and other vulnerable sections of the society,” she told the staff.

Director acknowledges CM

Earlier in her keynote address, the director of Social Welfare department, K Atoli Sema, acknowledged the chief minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, for his commitment and prompt action towards realising his clear vision of bringing all the directorate offices in the close proximity of Nagaland Civil Secretariat Complex for the sake of public convenience.

She informed that the government of Nagaland had allotted the plot in 2008 before commencing construction work in the subsequent years. However, it faced issues due to land dispute between landowners and department, and stoppage of funds under Special Plan Assistance.

“The path to progress has not always been smooth, but fraught with periods of crisis which had to be met with positive measures, we managed to continue on the upswing and witness a fruitful outcome today,” said the director.

She also thanked and congratulated everyone involved in project and acknowledged Advisor Noke Wangnao for providing the support besides the architects, engineers and contractors.

Executive Engineer of Social Welfare, K John Mera informed that the building was constructed by M/s Engineering Station.

Earlier, General Secretary of NBCC Rev. Dr. Zelhou Keyho offered the dedicatory prayer before the plaque of the new building was unveiled by the advisor.
