KOHIMA — Dimapur district won the two-day State-Level Inter-High School Sepaktakraw Tournament organised by the department of Youth Resources and Sports (YRS) at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima on Wednesday. Both boys and girls dominated the game.

Niuland district finished second in the boys category, with Noklak and Mon sharing third place. In the girls category, Niuland district finished second, while Mokokchung and Phek districts tied for third.

Megolhou Dolie, additional director of Youth Resources and Sports (YRS), attended the closing ceremony and presented the prizes to the winners.

Speaking at the event, the officer said that Sepaktakraw originated in the 15th century in Malaysia and is one of the most popular games in Southeast Asia. He also added that it is not a new game in Nagaland.

Mentioning that the department of YRS has established a hostel in Dimapur with a capacity of 18 seats, Dolie maintained that Nagaland has produced more than a hundred national players at the sub-junior, junior, and senior levels, while also producing 15 players at the international level.

He praised the efforts of state junior coach Holshe Khrieo and instructor Puleno Neikha and urged all players to give their all, keep up the good work, and practice hard in order to achieve their goal.
