Dimapur civil society organisations resolve to address critical community issues
DIMAPUR — Dimapur-based tribal bodies have resolved to depute volunteers to the Vigilance Committee of the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) whenever necessary, to assist law enforcement agencies in tackling the menace of drug abuse and illegal taxation in the city.
A resolution to this effect was adopted during a joint meeting of the Vigilance Committee of NCD and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) of Dimapur on Tuesday, held at the Naga Council Office in Dimapur to discuss the pressing issues faced by the people of Nagaland, especially the residents of Dimapur district.
Besides representatives from more than 100 CSOs, including Dimapur-based tribal apex bodies, unions, associations, and non-Naga communities, and the presidents of Chakhroma Public Organization (CPO), Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) and Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) also attended the meeting, said an update from the Vigilance Committee, NCD.
As per the update, the leaders expressed their concerns and grievances on a wide range of issues affecting the residents of Dimapur. Some key topics discussed during the meeting included illegal taxation by numerous unscrupulous groups and organisations, price rise on all commodities, an influx of illegal immigrants and the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN), syndicate system prevailing in the market, pathetic road conditions, drugs menace, traffic and parking congestions in the town, and other pressing challenges faced by the citizens of Dimapur.
The house unanimously agreed to execute the agenda discussed in the meeting, it said.
Besides providing volunteer support to combat the issues of drug abuse and illegal taxation, the house resolved to serve a memorandum to the Government of India for early Naga political settlement and unanimously reiterated the resolution of ‘One Government One Tax.’
Additionally, it resolved to strictly deal with any form of illegal taxation or donations levied by welfare groups, organizations and unions, in accordance with the applicable legal provisions.
