After much speculation, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Saturday announced that it will contest 21 constituencies in the Nagaland Assembly election scheduled to be held on February 27.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC), General Secretary Incharge, Central Election Committee (CEC), Mukul Wasnik said that the party will also be fielding a candidate to contest against Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio from 11 Northern Angami-II (ST).

Seyievilie Chachu has been pitted against Rio, who in previous tenures was elected uncontested.

Meanwhile, NPCC President K Therie has deserted 16 Pfutsero Assembly Constituency (AC), which he lost in 2018 general election, to contest from Dimapur-I this time.

Former minister Zachilhu Ringa Vadeo is also making a comeback after decades. He is contesting from 19 Phek AC, the constituency where the Naga People’s Front (NPF) Legislature Party leader Kuzholuzo Nienu will be contesting.

The Congress has also fielded a woman candidate — Rosy Thomson — from 6 Tenning Assembly Constituency, taking the total number of women candidates in this election to 4 so far.
