CHANGTONGYA — To equip students with digital skills and promote comprehensive education, a state-of-the-art computer lab was inaugurated at St. John’s School, Changtongya, Mokokchung, by Colonel Rahul Gurung, Kirti Chakra Commandant of 12 Assam Rifles, Mokokchung, on September 9.

In his address to the students as the chief guest, Gurung emphasised the importance of nurturing dreams and working tirelessly to achieve them.

He encouraged students not to be discouraged by regional disparities and to view their ST quota as a privilege and a platform for success. He also stressed the importance of believing in oneself as a key factor in accomplishing anything and reminded students to respect their parents’ efforts and sacrifices for their education.

Tiatemjen, the chairman of the Akhoya Village Council, expressed hope that the new lab would provide students with essential computer skills, recognising the importance of digital literacy in today’s world.

The principal of St. John’s School, Subrata Baruah, emphasised the school’s commitment to keeping up with digital advancements. He also noted that the inauguration of the computer lab demonstrates the school’s commitment to providing a holistic education, including digital literacy.

The computer lab has 60 computers, and Takowati, the school’s proprietor, said that practical classes will be fully operational beginning September 11. He expressed contentment that the school can now offer computer education as part of its commitment to providing every student with practical computer skills.

With the participation of Assam Rifles officers, the event also featured an orientation programme on career guidance in the Army, providing information on how to apply, study, and cultivate interest.

The school presently has 141 students and, in addition to the principal, a vice principal, 16 teaching staff members, and six non-teaching staff members. It intends to apply for a CBSE higher secondary programme in the Arts and Science streams beginning in the academic year 2027.
