The Chümoukedima Ao Lanur Telongjem (CALT) celebrated Tsüngremong festival
Dimapur — The Chümoukedima Ao Lanur Telongjem (CALT) celebrated Tsüngremong festival on Tuesday by organising a ‘kimak’ programme, an Ao traditional practice of celebrators visiting houses of leaders, warriors, and rich men, singing songs of praise and valour, in Chümoukedima.
According to a press statement, a group comprising the convener of the Tsüngremong kimak committee, Dr. Moa Walling, the leaders of Chümoukedima Ao Senso Telongjem (CAST) and Jungpang Medem Zunga, along with the members of CALT, visited the houses of the chairman of Chümoukedima village Council and president of Angami Public Organisation, Razouvotuo Chatsu, chairman of Chümoukedima-A village Neikholie Shuya, retd. project director of RD Department Temjen Longchar, and commandant of NAPTC Ben Longkumer.
The visiting of non-Ao residences on such an occasion may be a first, as traditionally it is only practised within the Ao community, the statement said and added that this initiative not only helped to educate each other about different cultural practices but also re-enforced the bond that the Ao’s in Chümoukedima had forged with the traditional land owners, the Chümoukedima village and Chümoukedima-A village.
At each residence, Ao cultural songs were sung and Tsüngremong greetings were exchanged. CALT has expressed gratitude to all the hosts who warmly welcomed the group into their homes, as well as to members of CAST,
