CAGSA 50th meet: Thenyizu lift Football Championship

Phüsachodü, Feb. 9 (EMN):
 Thenyizu team lifted the football trophy in both men and women’s category of the golden jubilee edition of Chokri Area Games and Sports Association (CAGSA) that culminated on Monday at Phüsachodü village in Phek district.

In the men’s football final match, host team Phüsachodü registered a goal first before the half-time but Thenyizu equalised in the last minute.

After which, extra time was awarded to break the deadlock which went in favour of Thenyizu team with a scoreline of 3-1 to emerge victorious and lifted the Late Kronyi Kapuh memorial trophy for men’s football with a cash prize of INR1 lakh.

In women’s football, it was another encounter between Thenyizu and Phüsachodü where both teams scored a goal each and the winner was decided through a penalty shootout that went in favour of Thenyizu team. They lifted the Late Vezopra Nyekha  Memorial trophy with a cash prize of INR 30,000.

Nusezo Kezo and Anukho Theyo of Thenyizu  were awarded golden boots award and golden gloves while Zhoveto Chuzho of Phüsachodü was awarded the player of the tournament in the men’s category.

Shodulü Swiho and Sekhonolü Kezo of Thenyizu team were awarded golden boots and golden gloves and Zuniekholu Khamo was awarded the player of the tournament in the women’s category.

Basketball
In men’s basketball, Thenyizu defeated Chetheba with 35-19 points to emerge victorious lifting the Late Vekhoto Chotso with a cash prize of INR 50,000.

While in women’s basketball, Chetheba team lifted the Pungotolu Puro trophy with a cash prize of INR 20, 000.

Bedukho Swüro and Ravolu Nyekha both from Chetheba were adjudged as the most valuable player (MVP) in basketball for men and women respectively.

Volleyball
Chetheba defeated the defending champion Thenyizu in the final match of men’s volleyball on Tuesday and lifted the Late Husazo Swüro memorial trophy with a cash prize of INR 50,000.

While, Phüsachodü team lifted the women’s volleyball trophy donated by Mudovehu Yhobu that carries a cash prize of INR 20,000.

Venuzo Dawhuo of Thenyizu and Huvosalu Chuzho of Phüsachodü were adjudged as the most valuable player (MVP) of men and women’s volleyball.

Individual/ Group Championship
Meanwhile, Mery Chuzho of Thipuzu and Cüvoto Medeo of Khulazu Bawe were adjudged as individual champions for excelling in field and track events.

Whereas, Thipuzu team was adjudged as group champion for his eight gold medals.

Chotisuh Sazo, member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly attended the closing ceremony as guest of honour and in his speech congratulated the players and exhorted them to value their talents. Later, MLA Sazo and deputy commissioner of Phek, Razouvolie Dozo handed over the prizes to the players and team.

New CAGSA executive for the tenure 2021-23
A new team of Chokri Area Games and Sports Association (CAGSA) for the tenure of 2021 to 2023 was also elected with Zavepra Puro (North Kikruma) as the president, Besuvoyi Tetseo (Khulazu Basa) as vice-president, Vevohu Epao (Thipuzu) as general secretary along with 14 other executives. While the next CAGSA meet will be held at North Kikruma in 2023.
