CAGSA 50th meet: Defending champion Khulazu Basa defeats Chesezu 2-0

Phüsachodü, Feb. 3 (EMN): Three times Chokri Area Games and Sports Association (CAGSA) football defending champion Khulazu Basa started well on the second day of the ongoing 50th CAGSA meet by registering the first win against Chesezu team on Wednesday.

The Jubilee edition of Chokri Area Games and Sports Association (CAGSA) will culminate on February 9, at Phüsachodü village under Phek district.

Playing in group-A league matches, defending champion Khulazu Basa started their campaign by defeating Chesezu with a scoreline of 2-0 in the first match of the day that started at 7:30 am.

Despite the ball possession Chesezu team had, they failed to break the deadlock against the defending champions Khulazu Basa, as it managed to find the net in first half itself, scored by Zhoposa and Kuzoto enabling the team to emerge victorious.

In another tough match, Kikruma team beat North Kikruma with a solitary goal made by Punuyo Puro.

While in the third match, Thenyizu team outplayed Thipuzu team with a scoreline of 3-1.

With four teams qualifying in Group-A out of six, Thenyizu, Kikruma and K Basa have three points each, while teams  Thipuzu, North Kikruma and Chesezu are left with a game in hand to decide their fate for the next round.

In Group-B matches, host team Phüsachodü outclassed Khulazu Bawe by 3-0 in the encounter. Dzüthotsoyi Medeo struck twice in the first quarter and Vevochuyi Puyo-o added the third goal in the second half to finish the game for Phüsachodü team.

While the match between Chetheba team and Rukizu team ended in a draw as both teams scored a goal each in the first half but failed to advanced.

Host team Phüsachodü leads the group- B tally with three points, Chetheba and Rikizu with one point each, while Chikri Nasa team is yet to play it’s match. 

For women’s volleyball, Chetheba and North Kikruma have booked their semi-final berth winning two matches respectively. The fate of the other two teams will be decided with Phüsachodü playing against Khulazu Bawe on Thursday. 

For men’s basketball match, Thenyizu defeated Khulazu Bawe by 72-45 points to enter the semis for Group A. While Rukizu beat Khulazu Basa by 53-26 points. Khulazu Basa will play against Kikruma on Thursday and the winner will play against Rukizu in the quarterfinal round.

In Group B, Chetheba defeated  Chesezu by 69-40 points to enter the quarterfinal round. They will play against North Kikruma in the next round. While Thipuzu overcame host village Phüsachodü by 36-33 points to enter the semi-final round. 

For women’s basketball match, Thipuzu beat Kikruma by 19-16 points to go through the semis in Group A, while the other matches are yet to be played. 

Athletic event updates

Cuvoto Medeo finished the track in 15.5 minutes for men’s 5000 metre country race, while Necukho Rhakho of Thipuzu secured second place and Thejopa Vero and Rolio Mura-o finished in third and fourth positions respectively. 

In women’s 3000 metre country race, Mery Chuzho of Thipuzu took the first place finishing in 10.42 minutes followed by Vesusalu Vero (Phüsachodü), Kuthonulu Tetseo (Rukizu) and Mhasetalu Medeo (Khulazh Bawe) in second, third and fourth position respectively. 

Thursday’s highlight

On Thursday, the first football match for men will be played between Chikri Nasa and Phüsachodü at 7:30 am. While the first basketball (men) match will be played between Khulazu Basa and Kikruma. For volleyball (women), Phüsachodü will take on Khulazu Bawe.
