KOHIMA — The state cabinet made a ‘resounding decision’ on Monday, giving the green light for the recruitment of constables in seven crucial departments, Nagaland’s Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton said on Monday.

The recruitments will include the Nagaland Police, Prisons, Forests, Home Guards, Fire and Emergency Services, Lokayukta, and Home Guards and Civil Defence, he said.

Addressing media persons on the sidelines of an event at Police Headquarters (PHQ), Kohima, the Dy. CM, who is the minister in-charge of Home and Border Affairs, said the recruitment of constables for the seven departments was agreed upon and cleared by the Cabinet, and it will be done through the Department Recruitment Board (DRB) with representatives from Personnel and Administrative Reforms (P&AR), Government of Nagaland.

Patton also stated that a three-year age relaxation had been approved, with the maximum age limit for applying for the constable position being 38 years old, given the three- to four-year gap in recruitments.

FMR along Indo-Myanmar border

With regard to the Indian Government decision to seal the Indo-Myanmar border to restrict the free movement regime (FMR), the Dy. CM informed that the state government had met the Assam CM and that it would also be meeting the northeastern states sharing the Indo-Myanmar border and approached the centre. However, he stated that the schedule has not been discussed yet.

Meanwhile, Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP), Rupin Sharma, said the government of Nagaland will try to convey its views and opinions on how to manage the border and free movement regime.

He added that besides giving the inputs, the state would also try to see how to better regulate the border along the Indo-Myanmar border in respect of national security in general and help the emotions and sentiments of the people along the border for consideration.
