BJP Nagaland marked the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee in Kohima.

KOHIMA — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland State unit on Monday commemorated the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee at the party's state headquarters in Kohima, with leaders recalling his contributions to education, industrial development and nation-building.
Deputy Chief Minister and BJP Legislature Party (BLP) leader Y Patton, who attended the programme as the special guest, in his speech, described Dr. Mukherjee as a statesman whose ideals of service, integrity and national unity continue to inspire generations.
Highlighting his legacy, the deputy CM said Mukherjee believed education was the foundation of a strong nation and worked towards strengthening academic institutions while serving as one of the youngest vice-chancellors of Calcutta University.
Patton noted that Mukherjee promoted Indian languages and culture alongside modern education and encouraged scientific research, skill development and youth empowerment.
He also highlighted Mukherjee's role as independent India's first Minister for Industry and Supply, stating that he contributed significantly to laying the foundation for the country's industrial growth during the early years of Independence.
Recalling his political journey, the minister said Mukherjee founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951 with the vision of promoting democratic values, disciplined public service and national development.

He added that these principles continue to guide the Bharatiya Janata Party.
He further said Mukherjee believed India's unity lay in respecting its rich diversity of languages, cultures and traditions while ensuring equal opportunities for all citizens.
In this regard, Patton urged the people, particularly the youth, to emulate Mukherjee’s ideals and called for greater commitment to education, integrity, democratic values and public service in building a stronger nation.
Earlier, Thomas Magh, convenor of the celebration and state president of BJP ST Morcha, highlighted the life and contributions of Dr. Mukherjee, particularly his role as the founder president of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. BJP Nagaland spokesperson Chitho Nyusuo presented an overview of Mukherjee's socio-political life.
The programme was attended by Minister P Bashangmongba Chang; Advisors Kazheto Kinimi, Sethrongkyu Sangtam, A Pangjung Jamir and Daochier I Imchen, besides party office-bearers and workers.
Therali Ezung, state secretary of BJP Nagaland, delivered the welcome address, while vote of thanks was proposed by Khrielie Usou, president of BJP Kohima district.
The event was chaired by Kashini Kiba, Vice-President of BJP State Mahila Morcha.
