Kohima, March 18 (EMN): T
he Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday allotted the party ticket to S Phangnon Konyak for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election scheduled to be held later this month.

Konyak is the incumbent President of BJP Mahila Morcha (Women Wing), Nagaland State Unit.

The BJP also issued its ticket to Pabitra Margherita for Assam, Dr. Shikandra Kumar for Himachal Pradesh and Prof. Dr. Manik Saha for Tripura for the Rajya Sabha elections to be held on March 31.

In view of the formation of an all-party government last year under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), there are chances of the BJP candidate of winning uncontested, if one is to go by the reports that the NDPP and BJP had, during the PDA regime, agreed to give the lone seat in the Upper House to the latter.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of Naga People’s Front (NPF), Achumbemo Kikon, told journalists that “since the NPF is also part and parcel of the present dispensation of Nagaland- United Democratic Alliance (UDA), after a long deliberation, we have decided to form a committee”.

While the secretary general of the NPF party Ahas joined the ruling government earlier told journalists that “Since the NPF is also part and parcel of the present dispensation of Nagaland- United Democratic Alliance (UDA), after a long deliberation, we have decided to form a committee”.

The decision of the committee is awaited.

It may be mentioned that if elected, Konyak will be the second woman from Nagaland to become a Member of Parliament after Rano Shaiza, who won the election to the Lower House in the 1970s.
