BJP candidate S Phangnon Konyak files nomination for Nagaland’s lone Rajya Sabha seat

Kohima, March 21 (EMN): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Rajya Sabha election, S Phangnon Konyak filed her nomination in the office of the Returning Officer (RO) for the RS election and Additional Secretary of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Khrouhituonuo Rio on Monday.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Minister and BJP President Nagaland State Unit, Temjen Imna Along, Minister P Paiwan Konyak and a host of other party workers were present during the filing of the nomination papers.
The nomination to the RS election will close today at 3:00 pm.
The Naga People’s Front (NPF) had earlier said that it was determined to file a candidate to contest in the Rajya Sabha polls but it has not officially announced till the time of filing this story.
In the event of an election, voting will be held on March 31 and votes will be counted on the same day at 5 pm.
Konyak’s name was proposed by eight BJP legislators including two NDPP legislators — Temjen Imna Along, Y Patton, P Paiwan Konyak, V Kashiho Sangtam, Pangnyu Phom, N Jacob Zhimomi, Mmhonlumo Kikon, H Tovihoto Ayemi, G Kaito Aye and H Chuba Chang.
