KOHIMA — Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Kazheto Kinimi has emerged as the first candidate to book a berth in the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), as he is set to win the 31 Akuluto Assembly seat uncontested, a little more the two weeks before the polling day.

The development came following the withdrawal of candidature by Kinimi’s lone rival N Khekashe Sumi of the Congress on Friday, the last day of withdrawal of candidature.

Kinimi is the incumbent advisor of Civil Administrative Works Department (CAWD) and Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA).

Following the report of withdrawal of candidature by the Congress candidate, the BJP Nagaland took to Twitter to announce the news.

“Hon’ble MLA & Advisor & BJP candidate of 31 AC Akuluto @KazhetoKinimi declared uncontested in the upcoming NLA Elections 2023. Congratulations!” it tweeted.

Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, also congratulated by tweeting, “Shri. Kazheto Kinimi, @BJP4India MLA candidate of 31A/c Akuluto, Nagaland elected uncontested. Congratulations.”

Kinimi also took to social media to thank his supporters.

“Beyond humbled and honoured to represent the people of Akuluto 31 A/C for a second term, as unopposed,” he tweeted.

“I praise Almighty God for this privilege and extend my gratitude to my supporters, well-wishers, the karyakartas of Akuluto BJP mandal and Nagaland state BJP,” he added.

The Nagaland Assembly election is scheduled to be held on February 27 before the votes are counted on March 2.
