Bharat Jodo Yatra aims at highlighting people’s issues, says Nagaland Congress chief
KOHIMA — The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President S Supongmeren Jamir on Thursday said that the concept of the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ is leaving aside one’s own status and positions and seeking the views of the grassroots people, knowing their problems, interacting with them, and meeting the various kinds of people in society who are facing problems.
In his address to party members in Kohima on the first anniversary of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Jamir said that its mission is to know and project the problems of the people and bring them to light, putting them on a proper platform.
The NPCC also organised a ‘Bharat Jodo Padyatra’ to commemorate the occasion. The Congress workers gathered at the Congress Bhavan and marched till the TCP gate before culminating the foot march at its office, after which it held a ‘Bharat Jodo Sammelan’ (public meeting).
Following the march, the Convenor of the NPCC Public Grievances Cell, Meshenlo Kath, highlighted the role of the cell and asked party members to bring any issues to their attention so that they could be addressed for the good of all.
He also emphasised the importance of resurrecting the Congress in order to restore secularism and secure democracy in the country, and he urged everyone to work together.
NPCC Working President KhriediTheunuo stated in his speech that the occasion is significant because it demonstrates that Congress is still alive in the state. While expressing his displeasure with the BJP-led government interfering in every aspect of life, he underscored the importance of restoring secularism.
He criticised the BJP government for its lack of stability and consistency and expressed concern about the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), which is in the ruling party’s manifesto, putting people’s constitutional rights at stake, as well as the fear of removing Article 371 (A).
He mentioned that the Congress in Nagaland will form an alliance with political parties to contest the upcoming parliamentary election, and expressed hope that a Congress government would be reinstated in the state soon.
Leaders of the National Students’ Union of India, Nagaland, Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress, NPCC Legal Cell, and Jawahar Bal Manch also addressed the gathering.
