KOHIMA — Advisor of Water Resources, Tongpang Ozukum, on Saturday asked the personnel of 2nd Battalion of the Naga Regiment (Mashkoh Warriors) of the Indian army to be ambassador by conveying the valour of the Nagas and to salute the veer Naris wherever they go.
He stated this while interacting with the personnel, who would undertake a motorcycle rally expedition from Kohima to Kargil (K2K) at the Kohima War Cemetery in the presence of MLA Dr. Tsielhoutuo Rhutso; Col Gaurav Singh, CO of 164 Naga TA; Col. SS Gusain, CO of 2 Naga Regiment; and the team leader Lt. Col. Saini, second in-charge of Naga Regiment and others.
The expedition is being organised to commemorate 25th years of Kargil Vijay Diwas (July 26) and pay tribute to the gallant Naga soldiers, who laid down their lives in the line of duty during ‘Operation Vijay.’ The expedition would be flagged-off on July 2 by Lt. Gen. RP Kalita, GOC in-C of Eastern Command, at IGAR headquarters helipad in Kohima at 9 am.
“When you go there, tell them about us that Nagas do not hunt heads anymore. That was our tradition but we have changed and Nagas are as brave as any soldiers. So take the message to them and give our salute to the martyrs’ family whoever you meet,” Ozukum said.
He stated that Naga soldiers are distinct from others and the supreme sacrifices they had made would be remembered always in Indian history. He also encouraged the soldiers to keep up the distinct character and discipline. He further wished the expedition team a safe ride and also conveyed the good wishes extended from the chief minister’s office.
The team is expected to reach Kargil on July 26 coinciding with Kargil Diwas by traveling around 3700 km on theme “Kargil victory ride.”
