DIMAPUR — Nagaland Governor La. Ganesan on Thursday said basic services like education, healthcare, drinking water and financial institutions must be made available at the doorstep of the citizens, especially the down-trodden people.

Towards this end, the governor urged the officers of the various departments to ensure that the government’s flagship programmes pertaining to basic services are “diligently implemented for the welfare of the people”.

Ganesan was addressing an interactive meeting of heads of offices and leaders of civil society organisations of Mokokchung district at DC conference hall, on his maiden visit to the district, an update from DIPR stated.

He also requested the deputy commissioner to have periodic review of the implementation of the various schemes and programmes in the district and to take necessary action, if there are any shortfall, to meet the goals and target.

Though it was his first visit to the district, the governor said he was aware of “many good things” about Mokokchung district and the Ao community, such as being the pioneer in many fields and Mokokchung town being the “cleanest town in the state and also in the Northeast”.

He lauded the people of the district for the huge turnout of voters during the recently concluded state assembly election and reminded not to undermine the election process and the electorates if the society is to move forward.

The governor went on to say that there can be rule of law only with the active participation of the people.

Further, he expressed optimism that the political problem of Nagaland will be solved and the state would prosper and be at par with the rest of the country.

Representatives from the Ao Senden, Watsu Mungdang, AKM, GB Union, All Ward Union, MCCI and other civil societies shared their grievances and opinions on issues related to ULB election, Naga solution, women empowerment, Civil Service Project (UPSC aspirant Trust Fund), drinking water problem in Mokokchung town and proper road connectivity in all the districts, it said.

The governor responded by saying that he would draft letters to the chief minister and ministers concerned and assured to do whatever he could in his capacity.
