DIMAPUR — A rally against drug abuse was held in Tening town on September 29 at the Town Square with the theme ‘people first, stop stigma, discrimination and strengthen prevention’.

According to a DIPR report, the event was organised by the district administration in collaboration with the anti-drug committee, Tening (ACT).

ADC Tening, Lemlila Sangtam, encouraged the gathering and spoke on how to support oneself and prevent people from using drugs during her brief speech on the occasion.

Stating that children and students from Tening town are the future of the Nagas, she urged the gathering to stand unitedly against drugs and substance abuse and said that drug consumption makes students mentally and physically weak and attracts various diseases.

The ADC also asked various organisations, CSOs, and student unions to work together to make society drug-free.

She commended the schools and others for participating in the programme, which was organised collaboratively by ACT and the administration. Sangtam further added that the administration is looking forward to extending full cooperation in every possible way, even in the coming days.

Kaibakam, president of Tening Town Youth Organisation, remarked on the occasion that every teenager must understand that drug abuse not only negatively affects their bodies and minds but also jeopardises their career, and added that everyone should strictly say ‘no’ to drugs and save their lives as well as the lives of their loved ones by creating awareness.

The president of Liangmai Council  and the president of Zeme Council, Tening town, also spoke during the event, which was attended by students from Tening GHHS, Baptist High School, SFS School, and Heraka School, among others.
