- KOHIMA — Principal
of Modern College, Piphema, Dr. Vitsou Yano, on Friday stressed the need for
students to become smarter—not just through textbooks but by learning through
understanding and becoming good role models.
- She was speaking at the felicitation programme for HSLC and
HSSLC toppers from the Angami community, organised by the Angami Students’
Union (ASU) and the Angami Women Organisation (AWO) held at the conference hall
of the AWO building.

- Dr. Yano encouraged the students to carry their identity and
also learn Tenyidie by emphasising its importance.
- Addressing the toppers, she said the future is in their
hands. Stating that the Angami community is progressing in various fields, she
challenged the toppers to reflect on how they could contribute to the growth of
society.
- She also underscored the importance of being responsible
citizens and added that as toppers, there are greater expectations placed on
them. She emphasised the need for skill-based education.
- Dr. Yano also highlighted the importance of goal setting and
advised parents not to impose their own goals on their children, but to allow
them to choose their paths. She urged both parents and children to maintain
open communication.
- She also called upon students to foster a growth mindset and
maintain a positive outlook amidst challenges and encouraged them to step out
of their comfort zones and overcome their fears.
- She further urged them to uphold integrity, fear God, be
broad-minded, think about the welfare of society and the community and dare to
be different.
- Neithono R Sothu, president of the Angami Women Organisation
(AWO), congratulated the toppers and acknowledged their success.
- “There is no greater joy for parents than to rejoice in the
success of their children,” she said and encouraged the students to fear God,
so that He would not forsake them in life and also advised them to live with
dignity.
- Sothu urged the students to respect their parents and
remember their sacrifices. She also advised them to set aside their past
achievements and begin anew saying, “You are only as good as your last exam.”
- She further encouraged the students to choose their friends
wisely, practice gratitude, stand firm in their faith and commit their plans
and lives to God in order to achieve greatness.
- A speech on behalf of the toppers was delivered by Vikhono
Senotsu, who secured the top position in the HSSLC (Arts stream).
- Greetings were delivered by Khriesamhalie David Mere,
president of the Angami Students’ Union (ASU), who commended the students'
achievements. He encouraged them to explore various courses and professions,
strive for success for themselves and the Angami community and fear God in all
their endeavours.
- Vikopeno Meyase enthralled the gathering with a song, while
prayer was said by Mhalevilie Yongo, pastor of Victory Church of All Nation.
- A total of 23 students from the Angami community were
felicitated on the occasion.

- ANPSA, NBCC honour toppers
- Kohima unit of the All-Nagaland Private Schools’ Association
(ANPSA) also felicitated the toppers of HSLC and HSSLC during a programme held
at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School in Kohima with the secretary of Nagaland
Board of School Education (NBSE), Rangumbuing Nsarangbe, as the keynote
speaker.
- In his address, Nsarangbe congratulated the students for
their remarkable achievements and encouraged them to remain grounded, focused
and committed to lifelong learning. He also acknowledged the crucial role of
teachers and parents in shaping young minds.
- A total of 48 rank holders from Kohima district comprising
toppers from both HSLC and HSSLC 2025 under NBSE were felicitated during the
programme. Each of the toppers was awarded a certificate of achievement and a
token of appreciation by ANPSA Kohima unit in recognition of their hard work
and excellence.
- Meanwhile, the school ministry of the Nagaland Baptist
Church Council (NBCC) has felicitated HSLC and HSSLC toppers 2025 of NBCC
member schools on Friday at Platinum Hall of NBCC office in Kohima.
- The ministry has felicitated 16 HSLC and three HSSLC toppers
during the programme.
- It informed that more than 100 schools are currently
affiliated under the NBCC school ministry.
- The school ministry congratulated all the successful
students in the HSLC and HSSLC examinations 2025. It also acknowledged the hard
work and dedication of the school administrators, principals all the teachers
and parents.
