Along inaugurates boys hostel and sports complex at Mt. Tiyi college

Dimapur, Nov. 24 (EMN): Minister of Higher Education and Technical Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along inaugurated the boys hostel and indoor sports complex at Mt. Tiyi College in Wokha district on November 23.

Addressing the inaugural function, the minister stated that the joy of inaugurating the facilities was not only because they are the political policy heads in the state but goes beyond to see that the seeds of the future are reflected in the right direction. He thanked the government of India and the state government for the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) project which has given 100% success story to the department of Higher Education and its institutions in Nagaland. He also congratulated the officials from the directorate and RUSA project director for making all activities happened despite many challenges. Along also congratulated the contractors for the good quality workmanship exhibited and completing the works on time, a DIPR report stated.

The minister also informed that under RUSA, another INR 2 crore for construction of college classrooms has been sanctioned. In this regard, he appealed to the land owners and stakeholders to allow things to happen for the benefit of the coming generation and also extend co-operation for successful completion of work.

While thanking the leaders and public of Wokha and Zunheboto districts for their relentless efforts in making the two colleges attained accreditation under NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council), Along assured to introduce Science stream in both the colleges.

Imna also encouraged the principal, faculty, ministerial staff and students to set their goals straight and give their best for the uplift of the college.

He also called upon the people to work hard towards building a ‘golden Nagaland’ so that every common people are able to draw the best of education, best of healthcare, best of resources for the people. He further appealed to the people to uphold them in their prayers so that they could serve the people better.

During the programme, Mhondamo Kithan Memorial Award for Academic Excellence, the first education minister of Nagaland, for the year 2020 was awarded to Achano N Ovung, Economic (Honours) by the minister.

Dr. S Tssikhen Kithan delivered a brief history of Mhondamo.

The boys hostel was constructed under RUSA funded by the ministry of Education, department of Higher Education, government of India and state government, while the indoor sports complex was constructed under UGC funded under the ministry of Human Resource Development, government of India.

Giving a brief technical report of the boy’s hostel, Sentimenbang Jamir, SDO (PWD) Housing, Education Division, Kohima, stated that the total estimated amount for the hostel was INR 2 crore with 50 bedded facility. According to him, the work commenced on February 2, 2015, and was completed on April 28, 2018.

Advisor of Horticulture and Border Affairs Mhathang Yanthan, director of Higher Education Dr. Abeni, and host of department officials and state BJP officials accompanied the minister. Rev. Khonpemo P Kikon, pastor of Wokha Town Baptist Church, offered the dedicatory prayer for both the new buildings.
