DIMAPUR — As part of Wildlife Week celebration 2024, the Kohima Forest Division, in collaboration with Nagaland Forest Management Project and German Development Bank (KfW), observed the week by conducting various programmes across schools in Kohima, based on the theme ‘Wildlife conservation through coexistence.’
On October 7, a drawing competition was organised at Trinity School where administrator of the school, Kevin Solo encouraged the students to take active part in the event, an update stated.
Thejaser from Class 10 was declared the winner while Keneingulie (Class 10) and Palak Jaiswal (Class 8) secured second and third positions, respectively.
The three winners were awarded with gifts along with certificates. In addition, consolation prizes were also given away to the six students. Altogether, 27 students comprising of students from classes 8 to 10 participated in the drawing competition.

A painting competition was also organised the same day at Government Middle School, T Khel Kohima village, for students from classes 5 to 8, where Kilungwi (Class 7), Larila (Class 8) and Benjongsanla (Class 7) secured first, second and third positions, respectively.
The winners were awarded with cash and certificates. Consolation prizes were also given away to Rangtem of Class 5 and Moshu of Class 6. Altogether, 25 students took part in the painting competition.
Additionally, a quiz competition was conducted at Government High School, Forest Colony, for students from classes 7 to 9. The questions were based on wildlife and environment pertaining to certain facts in Nagaland, India and globally.
Students were divided into four groups – A, B, C and D – where Group D (Maiyom Konyak, Jongop, Whangthom Hangsik and Athishu) were declared the winners, while Group A (Phongjei Shukha, Vizokhoto Vitso, Chinneihoi Touthang and Wangnam Hakhun) and Group B (Neha Devi, Langkai, Pangwung Phom and Redetsula) secured second and third places, respectively.
The ‘Most valuable participant’ who answered the most of the questions was awarded to Athishu of Class 8. Assistant headmistress of the school, Swedesenuo Zao expressed gratitude to the Forest division for organising the event and mentioned that the students had learned a lot from the competition.
Altogether, 30 students took part in the competition.
On October 8, the Office of the Range Forest Officer, Kohima Range, Blythe’s Tragopan Conservation and Breeding Centre and Puliebadze Wildlife Sanctuary organised a ‘Nature Walk-cum-Exposure Visit’ at Blythe Tragopan Conservation and Breeding Centre, Kohima for students of RDNUMS School, Kohima.
“The nature walk was organised with the purpose of sensitising and creating awareness on the importance of conservation and what every individual can do to contribute towards the cause of conservation.
“The students were enlightened on the importance on conservation of wildlife and human and wildlife interdependence for peaceful coexistence,” it stated.
Altogether, 67 students along with two teachers participated in the nature walk.
A quiz competition was also conducted on Wildlife of Nagaland.
