Orange alert issued for Nagaland as Remal makes landfall
DIMAPUR — The Meteorological Centre, Kohima on Sunday issued an orange alert for Nagaland in the wake of severe cyclonic storm ‘Remal’ which is likely to make landfall between Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts by Sunday midnight.
“Under its influence fairly widespread/widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall/thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty wind (40- 50 kmph) is very likely to occur over Nagaland region on May 27 and the 28th,” it said in a press release.
While most places in the state are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning accompanied by gusty winds at most places, it said that isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at Kohima, Phek, Kiphire, Tuensang and Mon districts.
