Nagaland experiences deficient rainfall; more rain expected in Northeast

DIMAPUR — Brief rains on Friday and Saturday brought some relief to the people of Dimapur after a long spell of scorching sun, and also created havoc in some areas due to waterlogging, but the state is by and large facing rain deficit.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s weekly rainfall update for June said that Nagaland districts like Dimapur, Kohima, Kiphire, Phek, Mokokchung, Longleng, and Mon reported large rain deficit, while Tuensang and Zunheboto reported ‘rain deficit’.

Meanwhile, it said the state received a normal rainfall between -19% and 19% on June 9 and the 10th, with the southwest monsoon having reached most part of Northeast India.

The IMD also updated that light/moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning is very likely over the Northeast region during the next five days, while heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh during the next five days.
