Dimapur, Feb. 2 (EMN): National Tuberculosis (TB) Eradication Programme (NTEP) and DAPCU, Zunheboto, organised an awareness and sensitisation  programme at Suruhoto primary health centre on January 30.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Aron Murru, DTO, Zunheboto, shared on the health, social and economic consequences caused by TB and urged to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic. He also shared some facts on the warnings and awareness for early detection. Besides elaborating on the signs and symptoms, he also spoke about the designated microscopy centre available in Zunheboto district, an update from the CMO office stated.

Dr Aron stated that TB is a major concern for people living with HIV (PLHIV) as their impaired immune systems make them particularly vulnerable to the disease. He added that providing the right care and support to PLHIV with TB co-infection remains a priority to reduce related morbidity and mortality.

Aron also emphasised on the urgency to act on the commitments made by global leaders to scale up access to prevention and treatment, build accountability, promote an end to stigma and discrimination, and promote an equitable, rights-based and people-centred TB response.

To eradicate TB disease, he stressed that everyone should come together to learn about the disease and disseminate information to the community.

IEC materials were also distributed during the programme.

Church workers and other stakeholders, IEC bureau and medical fraternity attended the programme.
