KOHIMA — Many students who wrote High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) exams conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) could be wondering on how to spend their holidays in a productive way, as they have completed their examinations.

The HSLC exam, which started on March 10, concluded on the 22nd, while the HSSLC examination commenced on March 9 and ended on the 31st.  More than 40,000 students appeared for the two examinations.

The HSLC exam conducted by the Central Board of School Education (CBSE) also concluded on March 21.

Here Eastern Mirror summed up a few activities that students can pursue in the days before the results are out, which may help explore one’s inner strengths and abilities along with providing a recreational experience.

1.  Learn what you always wanted to

This post exam holiday is a time when you are not stressed or under a tight schedule with classes, tuition, homework and so on.

It is an ideal time to learn the things you always wanted to, to explore talents, polish or start with something new to add to your aptitude.

Some can consider learning to drive, taking cooking/ baking classes, learning a new language or skill.

2. Time for hobbies

The tight schedule may not have given you the luxury of time to pursue your hobbies.

So this is the time when you can give wings to your passion, be it photography, painting, composing songs and poems, writing stories, gardening or mastering martial arts.

This time will not only help you be productive but also rejuvenate your mind.

3. Socialise

Many will never get this precious break, hereafter you are done with your studies as you will get busy with your career and will be offered no such distressing vacations.

This could be a good time to spend with your friends, families, your grandparents and extended families, watch movies, visit special food joints, go out for a coffee or to places you’ve always wanted to visit but never had the time.

4. Work out the potential streams

For students who have taken the board exams, be it from CBSE, NBSE or any other, it is also the perfect time to decide what stream or major you will be pursuing for your higher studies.

This free time before the result can be very useful to work out the best stream for the next class, speak with an elder or parents, who will guide you, or meet a counselor or teacher to help you choose a field of interest.

5. Consider a short-term course or training

There are many courses that may be learned within a period of one or two months while these courses/ skill training can enhance your skill set and give you an edge over the others in this competitive world.

You can consider courses like shorthand courses, courses on computer applications like graphic designing, web designing, multimedia, 3D animation, web programming, digital marketing, computer language like JavaScript, C, C++, even Barista training and many more.

These kinds of basic courses will add a bright touch to your resume when it’s time for you to approach the employers in the job market while it will also keep your mind active, enhancing its work potential.

6. Go out for sport activities

Sports have become one of the highest paying industries. However, the tight schedule and academic pressure often make most of the students sideline their favourite sport.

Making use of this time to go out and play the games that interest you the most will seem like a breath of fresh air, act as a huge stress buster or this time may even inspire you to consider sports as a profession.

7. Reading and writing

If you are a fan of reading, this is a great time to keep all your textbooks aside and read some interesting novels.

On the other hand, if you are into writing, you can also pen down your thoughts and try out some freelance writing work. This will help you earn some money and can be added to your CV too, publish your own books in various digital platforms or reach out to the nearest publishing house to consider one.

If children below 10 years can become published authors, illustrators and poets, so can you.
