394 nominations filed for ULB polls in Nagaland till date

DIMAPUR — The State Election Commission (SEC) has received a total of 394 nominations for the urban local body (ULB) polls to three municipal councils and 36 town councils in the state.

Out of the total nominations, 144 females are in the fray so far, for the first-ever municipal elections in the state with a 33 per cent quota for women.

According to data released by the SEC on Monday, there have been no nominations from any of the 14 town councils in the six eastern districts where the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) has called for abstention from all state and central elections including the civil polls.

The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has filed the highest number of nominations with 142, followed by 135 Independent candidates.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC) have filed 39 and 26 nominations respectively, while the National People’s party (NPP) has filed 18 nominations; Naga People’s Front (NPF) 14; Janata Dal (United) nine; five each by National Congress Party and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas); and a lone nomination from the RPI (A).

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is yet to file any nominations, as per the data.

According to the notification by the SEC, filing of nomination will close at 3 pm on June 11, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is June 20. After the polls on June 26 and re-polls, if needed, on June 28, the votes will be counted and declared on June 29.
