23rd NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy from September 18
The 23rd edition of the NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy is scheduled to be held from September 18 to October 15, 2023, at Indira Gandhi Stadium (IGS) Kohima.
KOHIMA — The 23rd edition of the NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy is scheduled to be held from September 18 to October 15, 2023, at Indira Gandhi Stadium (IGS) Kohima.
This was announced by the organisers Angami Students’ Union (ASU) during a press conference held at its office in Kohima on Friday.
ASU president Khriesamhalie David Mere informed that the tournament is organised in honour of the late Vikhozo Yhoshu of Kigwema and the late Kekuojalie Sachu of Kohima village, who were killed in indiscriminate firing by state police on March 20, 1986, when the students’ fraternity were holding a peaceful protest.
Convenor of the organising committee, Mhasimhalie Mhathew Yhome informed that the prize money has been enhanced this year and the champion team will receive a cash prize of INR 2.5 lakh along with a running trophy and citations.
The runner-up will receive INR 1.5 lakh, the two losing semi-finalists will get INR 35,000 each and the four losing semi-finalists INR 20,000 each.
There will be individual prizes of INR 10,000 each for best mid-fielder, best defender, best custodian and highest scorer. The player of the tournament will be awarded INR 1 lakh.
Yhome invited all the interested teams, within and outside the state, to participate in the month-long event, which will be held on the theme ‘Goal for peace.’
The registration fee has also been increased to INR 7,000.
Forms will be issued from August 14 onwards and will be made available at ASU office; Magdaline Coaching Centre Lerie; Sports World, main town; Sports Paradise at Keziekie; Royal Enfield at High School, G Sports in Chümoukedima and Kiran Sports in Dimapur.
The last date for submission of forms is September 14.
The entry fee per spectator will be INR 50, to be hiked to INR 100 by the quarter-finals, which will be played at night. There will be no entry fee for the inaugural match.
