The Zunheboto DPDB reviewed key development proposals, discussed swine flu preparedness, and considered infrastructure, education, and health initiatives during its monthly meeting.
DIMAPUR — The monthly meeting of the Zunheboto District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) was held at the deputy commissioner's conference hall on July 18 under the chairmanship of DPDB chairman and Advisor for Food & Civil Supplies, Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, K Tokugha Sukhalu.
According to a DIPR report, Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj welcomed the members, following which the board reviewed the action taken on the resolutions and agendas adopted at the previous meeting.
Among the key agendas, Divisional Forest Officer Obed Bohovi Swu proposed the implementation of a Green Campus Initiative in Zunheboto as a pilot project under the Community Social Responsibility (ComSR) initiative.
He also sought the board's endorsement of the ComSR model. Both proposals were discussed and taken up for further consideration.
ADC Akuluto Tiayanger Jamir proposed the establishment of a Fire and Emergency Services station at Akuluto, highlighting the urgent need for quicker emergency response to protect lives and property.
Supporting the proposal, the DC said a fire station had become essential in view of the increasing developmental activities in the subdivision.
The board also deliberated on proposals to establish a Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) office at Satakha and to construct a permanent District Welfare Office in Zunheboto, noting that the department has been operating from a rented building for several years.
Members further considered grant-in-aid proposals from two private schools for infrastructure development and improvement of teaching and learning facilities. The proposals included classroom renovation and procurement of educational materials for Coverning Kids Academy, South Point, Zunheboto, and infrastructure development for Mount View School, Suruhuto.
During the discussion, the deputy commissioner sought clarification on whether the schools were implementing the mandatory 25% reservation for children from economically weaker sections under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009.
Raj stressed the importance of ensuring access to quality education for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The board also discussed plans to organise the annual Inter-Departmental Tournament 2026, scheduled to be held in September.
Expressing concern over reports of swine flu in some villages, Sukhalu sought an update from the District Veterinary Office and directed the department to intensify awareness campaigns and take necessary preventive measures to contain the spread of the disease.
The meeting concluded with a presentation by District Programme Officer under the Chief Medical Officer's office, Hovishe Chophy, who briefed members on departmental activities and ongoing health programmes.
