Dimapur, Feb. 22 (EMN): While appreciating the role of School Education department towards the growth and development of education sector, the Zunheboto Range Students’ Union (ZRSU) has expressed its resentment over the department’s inability to curb the ill practice of ‘proxy teachers’.

Regarding the issue, the union had earlier given representation to the Sub-Divisional Education officer, Zunheboto (SDEO) and served a 15-day ultimatum to DoSE for strict measures to be taken against the malpractice of ‘proxy teacher’ in government schools within Zunheboto district headquarters on Feb 21, an update informed.

However, despite repeated appeal, the department has not taken any relevant steps to curtail the issue. With the availability of many professionally-trained teachers awaiting recruitment, those unwilling to serve in schools should be removed to pave way for those willing to serve with dedication, it said.

The union therefore, stated that it would take its own course of action if the department fails to address the issue within the stipulated time. It further warned the government teachers within Zunheboto town and Zunheboto area to stop the practice of keeping ‘proxy teachers’, adding that the union would take stringent measures against those teachers, who only enjoy their salary without any effort of providing quality education to the students.
