Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee extols NF Railway performance

Dimapur, June 23: All members of Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) have expressed satisfaction on the performance of the railway especially in extension of Broad Gauge (BG) connectivity to new states which gained momentum during the last two years.

ZRUCC members were unanimous in the agreement during its 92nd meeting held at Luitgarh Officers’ Club, Nambari in Maligaon on June 23. Altogether, 42 members including Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assemblies, Parliamentary Secretaries, representatives of stakeholders like Passengers’ Associations, Chambers of Commerce from all over NF Railway were present at the meeting.

Prominent public representatives who attended the meeting were included Kumari Sushmita Dev, MP (LS), Silchar; Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, MP (LS), Jorhat; Rameswar Teli, MP (LS), Dibrugarh; Ram Prasad Sharma, MP (LS), Sonitpur; Ronald Sepa Tlau, MP, Mizoram; Gopal Bareily, Parliamentary Secretary, Sikkim; Amenba Yaden, Parliamentary Secretary, Nagaland; Ashahel D Shira, Parliamentary Secretary, Meghalaya; T Mangibabu Singh MLA, Manipur; M Lakshmikumar Singh, Commissioner Transport, Govt of Manipur. Representatives of passengers’ associations from all over northeast like Katihar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Dimapur, Dibrugarh and North Lakhimpur were also present. The Railway authority was represented by HK Jaggi, General Manager, NF Railway; Ratan Lal, Additional General Manager of NF Railway; alongwith Principal Heads of Department of all Departments.

The members held detailed discussions on progress of ongoing projects in NE Region, improvement of passenger amenities in stations, provisions of additional trains, additional stoppages to trains etc. All the members expressed their satisfaction on the performance of the railway especially in extension of BG connectivity to new states which gained momentum during the last two years.

The ZRUCC is a forum, having a two-year term, constituted with members from different stakeholders of Zonal Railways including elected representative of Assemblies, Parliament, Passengers’ Association, Chambers of Commerce, eminent personalities, journalists etc. within the zonal jurisdiction to solicit views and suggestions on working of the railways. Views and suggestions of the members are considered to be a very vital input in formulation of programmes and policies of the railway.
