Dimapur, Feb. 24 (EMN): Zeliang Students’ Union (ZLSU) has strongly decried the act of the chief engineer of PWD (R&B) Nagaland, who allegedly permitted one contending party in the court to take up the Tening-Lekie road project under NERSDS based only on LOA issued on March 16, 2020, in contravention of the laid down norms and which was subsequently stayed by the High Court on March 24, 2020.

The union through its media cell claimed that the chief engineer, in total disregard of the facts and the order of the High Court, directed the executive engineer of Peren division to allow the contractor to complete the works without any contract agreement and work order issued by the authority concerned.

While the matter is still pending in the court, it stated that the action of the chief engineer of PWD (R&B) in permitting the Naagaami Infratech Pvt.Ltd. to carry on with the work was an outright contempt of court.

The union also stated that the executive engineer of PWD (R&B) Peren division was in the dark of the development as there was no intimation of work order to his office whereas the project in question falls under Peren division. It added that the High Court had once again on February 23, 2022, intervened and ordered that no work should be carried out at the work site.

Accusing the office of the chief engineer of PWD (R&B) of adding fuel to the fire and attempting to hurriedly siphon off the fund received from NEC, the union categorically stated that the chief engineer of PWD (R&B) would be held solely responsible should the matters aggravate and resulted in any untoward incident.

It urged the chief engineer to clarify as to whether a contractor could be directed to go ahead with the execution of works without contract agreement and work order. It also demanded that the collusion between the CE’s office and contractor should be investigated thoroughly by the central investigating agency and let the law of land take its course of action.

Union also demanded that the chief engineer of PWD (R&B) and executive engineer, Peren division, not release any amount against the project until the matter is disposed-off in the court.

It further warned that the union would not leave any stone unturned to find out the fact if anything is done in contrary and added that the two officers would be answerable for fraud and misuse of office to any investigating agency.
