Zhavame Students’ Union conducted its 66th general session at Zhavame village, focusing on unity, education and leadership.

DIMAPUR — The Zhavame Students’ Union (ZSU) conducted its 66th general session at the Public Amphitheatre, Pame Tsiidu, Zhavame village, Phek, on Saturday.
The session was organised by the student council on the theme “Igniting transformative change”, according to an update.
The programme commenced with the unfurling of the union flag by Dr. Roland Lotha, philanthropist and social activist, who attended as the special guest. Others present included community leaders, elders, parents, students and well-wishers.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Lotha expressed happiness at witnessing the participation of students and praised Zhavame as a peaceful and united community, describing it as “a land flowing with milk and honey”.

He said unity beyond denominational lines is vital for community development and progress. He added that many societal challenges arise from excessive individualism and urged people to stand together as one family with one heart while choosing good leaders and working for the common good.
Stressing the importance of prayer and perseverance, he encouraged students to pursue education despite discouragement and called upon parents to support their children’s dreams. He said happiness begins within the family and that family remains the greatest blessing.
The guest of honour, Chasii Charles Krocha, assistant headmaster, Government High School, Longmatra, Kiphire, conveyed best wishes and encouraged students, stating that irrespective of a student’s background, with a proper study environment, success can be achieved through hard work and dedication.
Zao Krocha, VCC Zhavame, acknowledged the efforts of the union leadership and encouraged the village community and the student body to uphold unity, support one another and continue working together for collective progress.
Joshua Rhi, outgoing president of ZSU, in his presidential address highlighted the significance of the general session as a platform for intellectual growth, interaction and reaffirmation of student responsibilities.
He underlined the importance of discipline, academic pursuit and moral values among the youth, reiterating the union’s motto, “Serve, strive, thrive”.
The nomination committee elected the new team of office bearers, with Bunyi Krocha assuming charge as the newly elected president of the Zhavame Students’ Union.
The valedictory address was delivered by Jonah Domeh, Uwin coordinator, UNPD.
He urged students to treat student life as a foundation for future responsibilities and student leadership as a practical training ground. He highlighted the importance of cleanliness as a reflection of discipline and personality and encouraged youth to take the lead in maintaining clean surroundings.
Speaking on career development, he advised students to identify their strengths, nurture entrepreneurship and work sincerely in both the government and private sectors. He further encouraged the younger generation to adapt to the digital age, continuously learn new skills and use technology responsibly.
He also appealed to students to respect elders for their wisdom and called upon parents to understand and guide the present generation with patience.
A highlight of the session was the presentation of achievers’ and special awards.
The union felicitated Visoupfu Domeh (Top 10 HSLC), Vipune Domeh (Top 20 HSLC), Dr. Dovine Dukru (completion of PhD on the topic “Computational Stimulation and Analysis of Fluid Flow with Variable Flow Specification”), and Khruvi Shupao (Forest Guard Examination 2025).
The Best Teacher Award (Deo Theodore Memorial Award) was conferred on Zhen Dukru in recognition of dedication and service.
The awardees were congratulated for bringing laurels to the community and serving as role models for younger students. The programme also featured the 11th Talent Night and the 2nd edition of Mr. and Miss ZSU.
