Zhaleo to kick-off 49th ASA sports meet today

Kohima, March 18 (EMN): The 49th Angami Sports Association (ASA) meet will be held at IG Stadium in Kohima on March 18.

This year’s disciplines include football for men and volleyball for women. The four teams — Chakhroma Youth Organisation (CYO), Western Angami Youth Organisation (WAYO), Southern Angami Youth Organisation (Sayo) and Northern Angami Youth Organisation (Nayo) from the four regions of Kohima — will vie for the coveted title during the one-day sports meet.

Four teams each from football and volleyball have been directly seeded into the semi finals, and the tournament will be conducted on a knock-out basis.

The first semi-final match will be played between Chakhroma Youth Organisation and Southern Angami Youth Organisation at 9:30 am while the second semi-final match between Western Angami Youth Organisation and Northern Angami Youth Organisation will be played at 11:15 am. 

The two winners of the semi-finals will clash in the finals at 2:45 pm.

In volleyball, the first match will be played between Chakhroma Youth Organisation and Southern Angami Youth Organisation at 10 am while the second semi-final match between Western Angami Youth Organisation and Northern Angami Youth Organisation will be played at 11 am.

The two winners of the semi-finals will lock horns at 2 am. 

The inaugural function, which is scheduled at 9 am, will be graced by Zaleo Rio, Advisor for Sericulture, Excise and Minority Affairs as a special guest.

Lhoubeizo Kesiyie, president of ASA will deliver the welcome address while Kelhouneisa Khezhie, Games and Sports, ASA will administer the oath to the players. Later, the valedictory programme will be attended by Medo Yhokha, advisor for Technical Education and Election, as the guest of honour.

Last month, ahead of the ASA sports meet, tournaments and selections were held by Chakhroma Sports Association (CSA), Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA), Western Angami Sports Association (WASA) and Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA) in their respective regions.
