Dimapur, May 29 (EMN): The first volleyball tournament for 10 west villages of 5 Ghaspani-II A/C was inaugurated by Zhaleo Rio, IAS (Retd.), Dy. Speaker, NLA, at New Socünoma on May 29, stated an update received here on Wednesday.
The 10 western villages of the constituency are Tsüüma, Moava, Hekheshe, Zuikhu, Khaibung, New Socünoma, Molvom, Sirhima, Bungsang and Sirhi Angami (Medziphema ‘A’) village.
Speaking as the special invitee of the tournament, Zhaleo called upon the people to inspire and motivate one another in events such as sports so that talents can be nurtured at the right age. He lauded the noble efforts of New Socünoma Youth Organisation who orchestrated the first volleyball tournament for the west villages under 5 Ghaspani-II A/C and challenged them to take their common platform of 10 villages to greater heights of achievements.
Citing examples of successful sportspersons, Rio stressed that “discipline and commitment to one’s aspirations are pre-requisites” in order to achieve dreams while requesting parents to “initiate necessary steps towards incorporating systematic guidance and encouragement in the upbringing of notable sportspersons” even from their area.
Rio further emphasised that such events create better understanding, coordination and oneness, and as such, urged the villages under the banner to delve in other ventures related to socio-economic, employment as well as developmental activities.
The two-day tournament will culminate on May 30 with Viliehu Nguzhü, president, Angami Sports Association, as special invitee of the closing function.
