The Wrestling Meet of Chakhroma Sports Association began today at Local Ground, Medziphema Town, with Zhaleo Rio, Parliamentary Secretary for Urban Development as the chief guest of the inaugural function. Speaking on the occasion, Rio noted the fact that ‘sports’ is one important platform to bring about unity and that one should always strive to be the best but with the spirit of sportsmanship. On traditional Angami wrestling, he opined that Nagas as a whole should participate, preserve and act accordingly in order to popularize it since many are aware of ‘Naga wrestling’ even at the national level. He also minced no words while speaking on the traditions & customs and that we must uphold culture, vis-a-vis Customary Court which is one of the rarest kind, based on truth and justice. Rio also advised everyone, particularly players, to maintain good dietary habits and health, hard-work and systematic training routines as well as strict disciplinary practices to succeed in life.
The 2-day event will culminate on January 31 which will showcase the finals of National Style and Individual Rounds (Naga Style) where Neibu Nagi will grace the closing ceremony.
Altogether, 48 wrestlers who have already qualified from their respective areas are into the competition. The meet is being officiated by 22 officials in different capacities.
