Zhaleo asks agri students to get innovative

TO accomplish the government’s ambitious plan on ‘Food For All’ by 2020, parliamentary secretary for Urban Development Zhaleo Rio today called upon the teachers and students of School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD) to undertake vigorous researches and pass on the latest technical knowledge to rural farmers to attain self sufficiency in food production.Addressing the students on the occasion its freshers social-cum-20th foundation day celebration, Zhaleo Rio, who is also the legislator from Ghaspani-II assembly constituency, said SASRD is the best platform for putting into practice of the technical know how to achieve the goal.
Stating that Nagaland is predominantly agrarian where the people still depend on agriculture for their livelihood, Zhaleo Rio has advised the students to choose career in rural farming with the application of modern technical knowledge for higher yielding. He has also encouraged to take agricultural activities on larger scale.
“We are still cultivators and not farmer,” Zhaleo Rio remarked.
He also suggested the college to adopt certain village by extending required facilities and other management skills and develop into a model village with emphasis on agriculture and its productivity.
He has urged for a better relationship between teachers and students to create an enabling environment for imparting quality education, while he also advised the students to pursue their studies with determination and commitment. He has also urged the students to imbibe the cultural values of the forefathers and not be influenced by western culture.
Associate Professor Dr. IT Asangla said the invocation prayer, while the welcome address was delivered by the students’ welfare in-charge Professor L Daiho and foundation speech was delivered by Dean NU SASRD Professor Aleminla Ao. Special numbers were also presented by Sanbharisha Dkhar and friends and John Laltluangliana.
