Zeliangrong leaders seek wider consultation on political issues
Dimapur, Sep. 4 (EMN): Leaders from the Zeliangrong community have expressed the need for wider consultation and deliberation on their political issues to be carried out for collective decision and mass participation of all concerned sections and organisations of the Zeliangrong society.
This was expressed during the ‘Leadership Meet’ held to commemorate the 91st martyr anniversary of Jadonang on August 29 at the office of the Community Development Alliance (CDA) in Samziuram village ‘B’ block. The meet was attended by Zeliangrong leaders from Assam, Manipur and Nagaland (AMN), civil rights forum, ZSUN and members of CDA, stated an update from CDA. The programme was chaired by CDA chairman, CR Zeliang, and moderated by CDA secretary, Gwangphun Gangmei.
It stated a moment of silence was observed in paying homage to Jadonang, who was hanged at the British scaffold on August 29 for defying the force of the British.
The moderator, while briefing on the historical account of Jadonang, lamented that his martyrdom has not been recognised as freedom fighter of India till date. He stated Jadonang was a pioneer leader of the Naga Raj movement. The moderated also stated that the discretion of the government of India to accord his successor Rani Gaidinliu a freedom fighter status with prestigious awards was acknowledged and appreciated.
The leaders have express their views on the importance and relevance of the historical accounts and political rights of the Zeliangrong people and asserted that Zeliangrong political rights must be pursued with urgency. Leaders have also suggested the need for urgency, courage, resoluteness and strategic diplomacy to resuscitate the Zeliangrong political movement with stronger determination.
It further suggested constituting Zeliangrong Homeland Demand Committee consisting of mass-based and collective representatives from all the communities living within the Zeliangrong homeland to process with issue with urgency.
