Dimapur, Oct. 31 (EMN): Following the decision of the Nagaland cabinet to set up a committee to examine the matter pertaining to recognition of Khehoi village and submit the report within three months, the Working Coordination Committee on Zeliangrong Land Issues (WCCZLI) has temporarily suspended the proposed bandh scheduled from November 1 till further notice.
The decision to suspend the proposed bandh was taken in its meeting on October 30, a joint press release issued by the committee convenor Kiezin Zeliang and the secretary Nikodim stated.
The committee has appreciated the wisdom of the cabinet in keeping the recognition in ‘abeyance’ for further examination. The committee also appreciated the government agencies and Peren district administration for honouring the grievances and demand of the WCCZLI by taking necessary measures to take it up for discussion in the cabinet.
However, the committee made its stand clear that its demand was for revocation of the recognition order of Khehoi village as the said village was illegally established and do not qualify to be recognised. It stated that the committee cannot be appeased by merely keeping the matter in abeyance if not totally revoked.
The committee urged the government to set up an enquiry and take necessary action against the administrators or bureaucrats who were responsible for letting the contentious issue be taken up in the cabinet for discussion when there was no clearance.
The committee also appealed the committee set up by the state cabinet to examine the matter in depth and submit its report without any bias so that justice can be delivered.
The committee further appreciated all the village youth organisation in Peren district for coming forward as volunteers towards the proposed bandh.
