Zeliang urges to complete NH before March end

The deputy chief minister, TR Zeliang, on Wednesday reviewed the ongoing works along the National Highways passing through Dimapur-Kohima-Kisama and urged the department and concerned agencies to complete it before March end.

Zeliang stated that during the first coordination meeting of National Highway department with officials from the state PWD (NH), NHIDCL and concerned contractors held in his office chamber at Civil Secretariat, an update from the deputy CMO stated. The meeting was convened to discuss and review the ongoing works along the National Highway passing through Dimapur-Kohima-Kisama in view of the ensuing G-20 Business Meet scheduled in Kohima on April 5.

The former chief minister, who now holds the portfolio of National Highway in the present government apart from Planning and Transformation, impressed upon the urgency and the importance of such an important event being organised in the state. Stating that delegates from various parts of the world are expected to attend the Summit, the deputy chief minister urged the department and the concerned agencies to give full attention to the pending repair works and complete them before March end.

On his part, Zeliang has assured full cooperation and stated that similar meetings would be convened more frequently for better coordination among all agencies.

It stated that commissioner and secretary of Works and Housing, Kesonyu Yhome, gave an overview of the ongoing works and stated that the target has been given to all agencies to complete all major works by March 20, 2023.

The various teams supervising the various stretches also presented their views and inspection reports at the meeting. It added that the recently joined executive director of NHIDCL and the general manager have shared their inputs on the works manned by NHIDCL and committed to complete the works within the stipulated target date.

Report also stated that contractors involved in construction works were informed to gear up and give their fullest support and dedication so that targets were achieved on time.

It further stated that some existing challenges were also deliberated. It informed that the state government would remind the deputy commissioners of Kohima and Chümoukedima to take immediate follow-up action since the same are enforcement related issues.
