DIMAPUR, JANUARY 4

The Zeliang People Organization of Dimapur has expressed ‘deep regret’ for the conflict “during our festive season.” The Zeliang organization issued a press release expressing solidarity with the Sumi Naga people, and the Rengma people in Assam. “We also extend concern and sympathy to the injured and to the families of those deceased in the unfortunate conflict and strongly affirm our support to the genuine cause,” the Zeliang People Organization stated in a press release issued to the Media on Saturday.
The organization also expressed concern at the plight of the Rengma Nagas who are fleeing from Karbi militants in Karbi Anglong in Assam. “The two communities (Karbi people and Rengma Nagas) have peacefully co-existed together since time immemorial and therefore the elders and elders of both side should see that this violence should be settled with mutual understanding based on historical fact for a permanent solution,” the organization stated.
The organization further denounced the killing of a student on December 28 in Dimapur’s new market. The victim, one Akivito A Zhimomi, was killed during a fight with an unidentified mob in Dimapur.
The organization has urged all right-thinking citizens “irrespective of caste and color to come together and stand up for justice and fight this antisocial element prevailing in our land.” “The ZPO requests the administrative authorities to take up the matter seriously and book the culprits at the earliest before the situation goes out of hand. The organization has extended condolences to bereaved family and prayed for strength to bear the loss. The press release was appended by the organization’s president Heikim Meru and general secretary NC max Dailiam.
Mao Hoho flays Karbi violence
The Mao Hoho of Dimapur has also joined in the denouncement of what it termed the “ethnic cleansing” of the Rengma Nagas living in Karbi Anglong of Assam by the Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers, a tribal militant group.
“The inhuman act of violence and atrocity meted out to the Rengma Nagas cannot be justified for whatever reason it may called for.
The Mao Hoho extends full solidarity to our Rengma Naga brethren at this juncture of turmoil and hardship. It is beyond comprehension that the KPLT are trying to erase the legitimate right of the Rengmas living in Karbi-Anglong,” the Mao organization stated in a press release received here on Saturday. “This act of madness would only bring disaster to the entire region. The Hoho appeals KPLT to shun violence and restore normalcy for a peaceful co-existence,” it added.
Zeliangrong groups denounce ethnic violence
The Zeliangrong Baudi of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland and All Zeliangrong Students’ union representing the three states have denounced the atrocities meted out to the Rangma Nagas in Karbi Anglong in Assam.
“The organizations urge the government of Assam to provide adequate security, protect ad safeguard the lives and rights of the indigenous people, deliver justice to restore back the peaceful co-existence of the age old good relationship among different communities in the district,” a joint statement from the two groups received here on Saturday stated.
