Dimapur July 21 (EMN) : The Zeliang officers of Nagaland under the banner of Zeliang Officers’s Association Nagaland today expressed dismay over the press statement of Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur that appeared in local papers of its against the return of TR Zeliang as the Chief Minister.
The press statement by ASTD President Mr. Supu Jamir which read “Anybody was acceptable as Chief Minister but not T.R Zeliang” sounds more like a politically motivated statement which is not expected from a responsible organisation like ASTD. It is a well known fact that the Chief Minister of a state is elected by the members of legislative assembly, accordingly Shri. T.R. Zeliang returned as the Chief Minister of Nagaland after fulfilling all the democratic norms through the overwhelming supports of the MLA , including even Eleven MLA from Ao community.” a press release from the association stated.
The association also stated that there is no history of sore relationship between the Aos and the Zeliangs since time immemorial but the press statement by, ‘few vested interest persons like Supu Jamir can provoke and incite the sentiments of the peace loving people. ‘
“Therefore, the ASTD is advised to refrain from using provoking statement which will damage the cordial relationship that the Zeliangs and the Aos enjoy,” it further stated.
