Dimapur, May 27 (EMN): The Zeliang-Kuki Gaon Budha Union (ZKGBU), Ahthibung Sub Division, has accused the Zeliangrong Region Cadres of beating up an innocent civilian from Khelma village over tax issues and condemned the act.

While describing the Khelma area as a location where people from Kuki and Zeliang tribes live together peacefully for years, the ZKGBU said in a statement that things have started changing of late with national workers of various factions derailing the harmonious atmosphere by resorting to unlawful activities.

The union claimed that four to five national workers of Zeliangrong region under 2nd Leiutenent Nzuakam came to Khelma village and brutally beat up one local named Benjamin, leaving him unconscious in the cemetery area on May 23. It said the incident was the third one in the recent past.

“This act of inhumanity is highly condemned by all people of the Kuki- Zeliang society and we also request Zeliangrong region authorities to refrain from such activities in future;  these activities are not good for the peace of this area,” read the statement issued by ZKGBU chairman Seijalam Hangsing.

The union also appreciated the efforts of Ahthibung Assam Rifles and police department for arresting the three assaulters — 2nd Leiutenent Nzuakam, Sgt Maj Daniel and Sitang – within 48 hours and requested the security forces to carryout frequent visits to ensure peaceful environment in the region.
