The press secretary of the chairman of DAN issued a press release informing about the event.
Speaking during the inaugural function of the conference, Zeliang called upon the six tribes of the eastern districts to ‘unite for a brighter future.’
‘Unity and Integrity of the people is crucial and the six tribes of eastern Nagaland must take positive decision for themselves instead of accepting feedings from outside the area, the end result of which could prove fatal in the near future,’ the press release quote the former chief minister as having stated. Also referring to “empowerment of Naga women,” Zeliang was quoted as having stated that ‘Naga women must be empowered economically, socially, educationally and politically’. On an optimistic note, he said that ‘the challenges ahead of us are many but it can be overcome with better understanding and proper consultations.’
Calling upon women to “unite and march towards a future based on equality,” Zeliang said that ‘the voices of the youths, women and men are all equally important and no particular section must be discriminated on the basis of their gender,’ the press release stated.
Earlier on Tuesday, Zeliang was said to have inaugurated two roads at Huker village in Tuensang ‘in the presence of’ local legislator R Tohanba, parliamentary secretary of Municipal Affairs and members of the public.
The two roads, one from Huker to Aiponger and measuring 10 kilometres and the other from Kephore to Shiponger, measuring 11 kilometres, were constructed “under PMGSY phase-8 and completed in 2014,” the press release stated.
Speaking at a formal programme at Huker Baptist Church, Zeliang was stated to have called upon the gathering to “unite and cooperate with the government to uplift the economy of the people.”
‘The support and cooperation of the general public is vital for uplifting the economy of the people because MLAs alone cannot bring in complete development,’ the press release stated, quoting from his speech.
Deliberating on the ‘Vision Document 2030’ recently released by the state government, Zeliang maintained that ‘In life, we all have visions and dreams for a brighter future and the same vision must be applied in politics.’
A personal assistant to R Tohanba also issued a press release offering updates. R Tohanba was stated to have appreciated the ENWO and the event’s organising committee “for selecting Chessore as the venue.”
The press release stated him as having stated that the government was serious “for the implication of 33% women reservation during the last Urban local Bodies (ULB) election for the (uplift) and progress of women position in the society ‘but unfortunately the election was disrupted as misunderstanding arose with local NGOs.’
