Zbt. DC urged police officers to be diligent in dealing with juveniles

[caption id="attachment_200542" align="aligncenter" width="500"] Shanavas along with district child protection unit and police officials.[/caption] Dimapur, Aug. 11 (EMN): The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Zunheboto, department of Social Welfare, conducted a sensitisation and coordination meeting with Special Juvenile Police Unit and Child Welfare officer on Thursday at Superintendent of Police (SP) Conference Hall in Zunheboto. An update from the DIPR informed that the programme was conducted for the improvement of investigation while dealing with children related issues. Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto Shanavas C, who is also the chairman of DCPU, while speaking at the meeting said that there are four factors leading a child to crime namely: “his or her environment, economic conditions, lack of education, and lack of parental care and also social traumas leads to repetitive behaviour.” He requested the police officers present at the meeting to deal with outmost care while dealing with the juveniles. He said that the DCPU should conduct similar type of seminars at the outposts and villages to sensitise the people. SP Zunheboto T Uniel Kichu said that ‘in the past two or three years child related cases are on the rise and that Zunheboto has a juvenile unit and they try their best to handle the case as per the law.’ The resource person of the meeting J Khetoholi Yepthomi, probation officer DCPU, spoke on the roles and responsibilities of Special Juvenile Police Unit and child welfare officers. She apprised the officers on pre production action of police and other agencies under Rules 8 of JJ Act 2015. Yepthomi also requested the SP and DC Zunheboto on the need of child-friendly corner or premises in Zunheboto police station. She also stressed on the need for separate entrance for child, provision of toilet, water, and to display the list of police officials who will be dealing with the child related issues. Further, Yepthomi also apprised the police officers on the procedure of investigation while dealing with ‘children in need of care and protection’ and ‘Centre of Child and the Law’ cases such as the presumption and determination of age under section 94 of JJ Act 2015.
