Zayieho wins 4th Open Pcheda contest

Zayieho Kin today retained the champion’s title of the 4th Open Pcheda Competition organised by Tragopan Club Viswema at Watch Tower Phuzwü, R Khel, Viswema, some 22 kms South of Kohima town.Pcheda is an indigenous game of the southern Angamis played after their Sekrenyi festival with a type of grass scientifically called Cymbo pogon nardus. The winner of the game is the one who can hurl the grass-stick farthest after first striking the launching platform.
Medokevi Kin, Visüto Khanyo and Kethovil Neikha bagged the second, third and fourth positions. The winners received Rs 15000, Rs 10000, Rs 7000 and Rs 5000 respectively.
Kevitho Neikha received the Man of the Match award and Avi Chaya got the Viewer’s Choice Award with cash prizes of Rs 1000 each.
Earlier, Class-I Contractor Puzashe Lcho, in his inaugural address as the patron-in-chief, said Pcheda is a game handed over to the present generation by the ancestors and therefore it should be respected and passed on for generations to come. He also maintained that Pcheda is one of the most peaceful and fair game and it garners better understanding and friendship among the contenders. He also advised the organizers to take up new ventures so that the upcoming generation can compete and excel in other avenues too.
The inaugural function chaired by TCV general secretary Keyiekhrü Rhütso commenced with Viswema Baptist Church deacon Tosovi Pusa. TVC president Keneikhrül Noswe delivered the welcome address while special numbers were presented by R. Khel Women Society and Vihosünü.
