Dimapur, Jan. 21 (EMN): The NSCN (K) outfit led by Yung Aung has called for boycott of the celebration of India’s Republic Day on Jan. 26.

A statement from the group on Monday stated that the boycott would be effective in all ‘Naga inhabited land.’ It stated that the group ‘deeply honour and stand by the 1951 plebiscite wherein 99.9% Nagas voted for full sovereignty and unanimous boycott of the first Indian general election in 1952.’

“Therefore, the NSCN/GPRN, with great confidence and expectation, call upon all Naga citizens to exercise your birthright by supporting our boycott call and to refrain from the celebration. Today being one of the most crucial chapters in the history of our National movement, your cooperation and moral support is vital to sustain our ongoing struggle,” the statement read.
